Zamalin, Alex
Alex Zamalin
Director of the African American Studies Program and Assistant Professor, Political Science, has expertise in the following areas including African American political thought, American politics and political theory. His areas of expertise include African American political thought, American politics and political theory. He is the author of "African American Political Thought and American Culture: The Nation’s Struggle for Racial Justice" (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2015), "Struggle on Their Minds: The Political Thought of African American Resistance" (New York: Columbia University Press, 2017), "Antiracism: An Introduction" (New York University Press, 2019) and "Black Utopia: The History of an Idea from Black Nationalism to Afrofuturism" (Columbia University Press, 2019). In addition, he is the co-editor of "American Political Thought: An Alternative View" (New York: Routledge, 2017). His work on race, political theory and social justice has appeared in New Political Science and Women’s Studies Quarterly. He joined the University in 2015. He holds a doctorate and a Master of Philosophy from City University of New York and a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College.

Zarkowski, Pamela
Pamela Zarkowski
Adjunct Professor, School of Dentistry, Division of Practice Essentials & Interprofessional Education; Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, teaches community dentistry, ethical, legal issues including topics related to cultural diversity, leadership, women's issues and occupational hazards. Zarkowski lectures in continuing education courses and has published extensively in the areas of legal and ethical issues for the health professions. Zarkowski holds a B.S. in Dental Hygiene, a M.P.H. in Dental Public Health, a teaching certificate in Community Dentistry from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor and a certificate in Gerontology from Wayne State University. She joined the University in 1978.

Zakhary, Ibrahim
Ibrahim Zakhary
Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, Division of Clinical Essentials and Simulation, Prof. Zakhary teaches oral surgery and local anesthesia to dental students, as well as serves as a clinical instructor and to dental students and oral surgery residents. He works as an examiner of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Prof. Zakhary earned his Bachelor of Dental Sciences and Master of Science of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Cairo University, Egypt. He has special research interest in bone regeneration and reconstruction of orofacial region, with several journal article publications and presentations in that field.zakharie@udmercy.edu

Zeff, Lawrence
Lawrence Zeff
Professor of Management, teaches courses in organization behavior, organization theory, leadership and strategic policy. He has consulted with organizations to improve executive decision making, provide leadership and management skills, and create mission statements and implement strategic plans. His research concentrates on team building, strategy implementation, leadership and implementing change. Zeff received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan, M.B.A. in Management from Wayne State University and Ph.D. in Organization Theory from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the University in 1973.

Zeitz, Carolynn A.
Carolynn A. Zeitz
Associate Clinical Professor, Clinical Dentistry – Division of Pediatric Dentistry, Director of Quality Assurance and Process Improvement, teaches infant oral health, dental home, anticipatory guidance, radiology and techniques with pediatric patients, and prevention to dental and dental hygiene students. She is also involved in clinical teaching in the pediatric dentistry clinic with all students. Additional responsibilities also include a weekly rotation with dental students at local Early Head Start Centers teaching students how to perform knee-to-knee exams on children ages 6 months – 3 years of age and is the Director of Quality Assurance and Process Improvement for the dental school. Ms. Zeitz has authored the chapter, The Pediatric Patient, in the world-renowned Dr. Esther Wilkin’s dental hygiene textbook, Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist, 12th edition and soon to be released 13th edition. She is a Registered Dental Assistant, received a Certificate and B.S. degree in Dental Hygiene and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the ºÚÁÏÉçÇøapp. She joined the University in 2006.

Zhong, Xiaohui
Xiaohui Zhong
Professor of Mathematics, teaches mathematics, especially analysis and other high-level mathematics courses. Zhong's research interests include functional analysis, complex analysis, numerical analysis, and innovative teaching of mathematics. Zhong holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from the South China University of Technology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University. She joined the University from Coopers & Lybrand in 1992.

Zhou, Zheng
Zheng Zhou
Associate Professor, teaches periodontics and dental implantology, perio-orthodontic interdisciplinary treatment to dental students, and residents in Periodontics and Orthodontics programs. Prof. Zhou is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is an active member of American Academy of Periodontics, American Association of Orthodontists, and American Dental Association. He received a Doctor of Dental Surgery, Doctorate and Certificate in Orthodontics from West China University of Medical Sciences. He received a Certificate in Periodontics from Medical College of Georgia. Prof. Zhou remains active in private practice. He joined the university in 2015.

Zimmerman-Oster, Kathleen A.
Kathleen A. Zimmerman-Oster
Professor of Psychology, Director of Industrial Organizational/Psychology Master of Arts Program and Director of Research, Evaluation and Leadership Development for the Institute of Leadership and Service (ILS). At the undergraduate level, Zimmerman-Oster teaches social psychology (with a focus on positive psychology) and a capstone course in leadership (with a focus on the Detroit Mercy Social Change Model (SCM). At the graduate level, she teaches courses in leadership (with a focus on emotional intelligence, servant leadership and the SCM) and a two-course industrial/organizational psychology internship and capstone sequence (which focus on career maturity and professionalization). Each of these courses include a service learning component. These opportunities to lead and serve involve either service to high school students in the Step Up: Be a Leader and Pay It Forward program, the development of Mini Caring Communities or providing consultation and technical support to the ILS and the Emerging Leaders Program (a co-curricular retention, reflection, and recognition program that awards the Leadership Pin and Medallion.) Her areas of special interest, research and consulting include "leadership development across the lifespan," organizational development and evaluation and assessment. Zimmerman-Oster also provides consultation and technical assistance in the areas of training, evaluation, survey research, and grant development to local and regional non-profit and human service organizations in the areas of youth leadership development, community coalition building, and prevention of negative life outcomes. Zimmerman-Oster holds a Bachelor of Arts from University of Detroit and a Master of Arts and doctorate from Wayne State University. She joined the University in 1989.
